Andrew speaking to students at the University of Victoria | November 7, 2016

University of Victoria |November 7, 2016

I was invited to speak by UVIC Commerce Student's Society (CSS) to a large group of driven and talented business students. It was an honour to be back at my university as an alumni to share my story and what it is like after graduation. I feel it is very important to speak and engage with students about the 'real-world' post university. I shared my humble beginnings of hard work and the dedication that is needed in order to succeed in today's workplace in particular, finance. Most importantly, to not let anyone tell them they can't do something.

As an employer of a team of fifteen, I have interviewed hundreds of candidates over the last nine years. I shared my key tips with the students in what I find makes applicants stand out (both good and bad). I reminded them that is there is no millennial bad reputation, as in fact some of the hardest working people on my team, I have hired right out of university.

We shared some laughs and ended with a great session of questions. I was thoroughly impressed with the in-depth questions asked and the engagement of the students. UVIC you should be proud of your student and upcoming grads. I am excited to keep in touch and look forward to speaking in the future at UVIC.

Thank you to Hanna Chen and CSS team for organizing a great night!
